BeAuTy TIPS

How to minimize your pores

While it's impossible to shrink the actual size of your pores, there are ways to minimize their appearance. Start by reducing the amount of oil on your skin, which can clog up your pores and make them look bigger. Wash your face twice a day with an exfoliating cleanser that contains ingredients like salicylic acid to slough away the gunk in your pores. Follow that up with an oil-free, noncomedogenic moisturizer (use one with at least an SPF 15 during the day since sun damage can stretch out your pores). Once a week, use an at-home microdermabrasion or chemical peel kit to remove dead skin cells so your skin looks smoother and your pores are less noticeable.

How To Get Glowing Skin

If your complexion is looking lackluster, chances are dead skin cells are to blame. "Dull skin is caused by a buildup of dead skin cells that don't slough off properly, kind of like old paint or nail polish that loses its luster," says top dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu. Couple that with dry winter weather, sun damage and hormonal changes and you've got a recipe for skin care disaster. Fortunately there are a few easy steps you can take to keep your skin looking its healthy, glowing best.Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. If your skin isn't shedding those dead cells on its own, you're going to have to do it yourself. If you have normal/oily skin, Wu suggests using a salicylic acid product, like Philosophy The Microdelivery Peel, once a week. If you prefer mechanical exfoliation over chemical, try the Clarisonic Skincare Brush to physically remove buildup. For those with dry or sensitive skin, Wu recommends a gentle scrub like Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Smoothing Scrub to gently lift off dead skin cells without aggravating your skin.Get into a routine. In addition to your weekly exfoliation, Wu suggests you keep your skin vibrant by using a sunscreen during the day to protect from skin-dulling sun damage and use a night cream that contains a retinol or retinoid like Renova to speed up cell turnover and push new, healthy cells to the surface.Do a quick fix. If you want your skin to look brighter instantly, Wu has a few sneaky tricks to get glowing right now. "I'm obsessed with shimmer powder, which reflects light and makes your skin instantly glowier," says Wu. Try: Stila Illuminating Finishing Powder and Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick. Wu also suggests using a makeup primer to smooth flaky skin and provide an even surface for powder or foundation application. We like: Dior SkinFlash Primer.

How To Make Your Eyes Pop

For eyes that look bigger, brighter and more colorful, you don't need any complicated makeup tricks—just pick the right eyeshadow shade. It's a basic color theory—opposite shades on the color wheel make each other look more intense and vibrant. This means that you should pick an eye shadow shade that is directly opposite your eye color on a traditional color wheel. Follow this guide to discover your most flattering eye shadow shade:

If you have green eyes, try out purple eye shadow shades such as lavender, violet, or amethyst. Keep the color sheer so it won't look garish. For eyeliner, a deep plum is perfect.

If you have blue eyes, go for a warm copper, burnished gold, or rich brown eye shadow. Chocolate is an excellent shade choice for eyeliner.

If you have brown eyes, opt for cool blue or green eye shadow tones like mint, powder blue, or teal. A deep forest green is an ideal eyeliner shade. Want to experiment with some new makeup looks?

Make your lipgloss last longer

Lipgloss has a tendency to pull a disappearing act before you've finished your first cocktail. The trick to making your gloss stick around a lot longer is to layer up your lips.

1). Start by filling in your entire mouth with a lip liner that matches the natural shade of your lips. This creates a base for your lipcolor to grab onto.

2). Next, apply a creamy neutral lipstick in a similar shade to the liner. Blot away the excess to tone down the color intensity, then brush on a healthy dose of your gloss. In general, thick, shimmer-flecked formulas tend to last longer than sheer ones. And if you have a habit of licking your lips when you're wearing gloss, opt for an unscented, unflavored lipgloss to help nix the temptation of eating away at the goods.

Applying False Lashes

Follow these tips when applying false eyelashes:

Remove the faux lashes from the storage case, and give them a test run by holding them in place across your eyelid (without the adhesive). Then use a pair of sharp scissors to trim the lashes, as needed, a few hairs at a time.
Use a toothpick or Q-tip to apply a thin line of glue across the entire length of the roots of the false eyelashes (never apply glue directly to your own eye). MAC Duo glue is my fav.
Let the adhesive set for about a minute or until it's tacky.
Place the lashes along the base of your lash line, as close to the roots as possible, starting from the inside corner. If you're using individual lashes, though, work from the outside corner of the eye to the inner corner. Press and hold in place for ten to 15 seconds.
Release the lashes and let them dry for a minute or two.
As a finishing touch, says Longo, sweep a coat of mascara across both your natural and false lashes to bind the two together.
If properly cared for (that means you clean and store them after each use), most false lashes can be used up to four or five times. When you're ready to remove them, it's important to be gentle.

Here are the steps to safely removing false eyelashes:
Clean your eye area with an eye-makeup remover.
Gently lift the false eyelashes, starting at the outer corner of your eye, and tug a bit to loosen them.
Continue tugging until the lashes peel away.
Use a cotton swab dipped in the makeup remover to clean any remaining eye makeup from the lash extensions, then place them back in their original storage case.
With false eyelashes in your makeup bag, you'll have a fun way to get super-glamorous eyes whenever you want them!

MAKEUP TRENDS 2010!

MATTE SKIN

What skin to choose this season? First of all it should be mentioned that matt skin is extremely popular according to the runway F/W 2009/10.
Emanuel Ungaro and Marc Jacobs offer us to pay attention to matt face skin that looks predominantly as a background for the principle face distinctions – eyes and cheeks.

NATURL LIPS
Tenderness and innocence of lips color palette range from slightly pink, violet, fuchsia to extremely pale, almost skin-fitting-hue.
Steer clear of lip glosses. Your lips should be decorated with matt lipstick. This will allow laying more stress on the eyes.

GLITTERY LIDS
No longer a disco cliché, glitter is back and better than ever—as evidenced by all the sparkling fall 2010 runway looks.

FULL LASHES
Long lashes are big. A huge trend (and one we aren't signing up for, thank you very much) are 'permanent' false lashess applied individually. They last a couple weeks and are especially big on the West Coast. Not ready to go the glued route? Layer on the mascara. Several coats should do you fine. (Don't believe the old beauty 'no' that you should only apply 2 coats of mascara. That 'don't' is now a 'do': You just can't get lush, thick lashes with only two coats.
